reclaiming all that is yours

Physical media is something that I’m really into at the moment. As someone who’s just moved countries (Yes, moving from South Wales to West Yorkshire is technically moving countries), I kind of wish that I wasn’t. Thirty percent of my moving boxes were full of 4K blu-rays, DVDs, CDs, and records. Another twenty percent were books. It added a small amount of faff, but at least it was my faff.

Now I’m settled into my new/old abode, I want to get back into actually consuming the physical media I’ve been collecting. Of the dozens of movies I own physically, I reckon I’ve only watched maybe four or five of the discs. That’s not good enough, and I know it. I buy these movies to enjoy them, so enjoy them I shall.

Starting today, I’ll be watching every movie I physically own in alphabetical order. This means I’ll be starting with A Bug’s Life, and ending with 2001: A Space Odyssey. Movies in franchises will be watched in order— I’m not a total maniac. That means when I get to the J’s, I’ll be watching Jurassic Park, followed by The Lost World, followed by Jurassic Park III, before continuing on to The Lion King.

The alphabetical order thing is totally arbitrary, and is easiest for me to do as I display my collections in alphabetical order for ease of use. But I’m super excited to get into this, especially as I’m imposing another rule. I’ll purchase no physical media of any kind until this little challenge is complete. That means no physical movies, box sets, CDs, records, or books. Not until I’ve watched all 50 movies that are currently in my collection.
